Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Ready in under 20 minutes, start to finish
  • Uses simple, everyday ingredients
  • Rich garlic butter creates deep, steakhouse-level flavor
  • Works perfectly on an outdoor grill or stovetop grill pan
  • Easy to scale up for a crowd

Ingredients Notes

  • Top sirloin steaks: Pick cuts with visible marbling for the best flavor. At least 1 inch thick is ideal.
  • Unsalted butter:  Gives you control over saltiness. Real butter only — no margarine.
  • Fresh garlic: Always use fresh. Jarred garlic won’t give the same smooth, mellow flavor.
  • Garlic powder: Adds a softer depth alongside fresh garlic. Don’t skip it.
  • Kosher salt: Easier to distribute evenly than table salt. Season just before grilling.
  • Black pepper:  Freshly cracked gives more aroma and a slightly bolder bite

 Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Lemon wedge for serving

How To Make It

Step 1: Gather all the ingredients. Preheat an outdoor grill to high heat and lightly grease the grill grate.

Step 5: Grill the steaks on the preheated grill for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reaches 140°F (60°C) for medium doneness.

Step 6: Move the steaks to warm serving plates, generously brush with the garlic butter mixture, and let rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

Tips for the Best Results

  • Dry the steaks before seasoning for a better sear
  • Do not press down on the steaks while grilling, as it pushes out the juices
  • Let the butter melt off the heat so the garlic doesn’t burn
  • Always rest the steak before slicing for a juicier bite
  • Use a meat thermometer to take the guesswork out of doneness

Storage

Refrigerator: Wrap leftover steak in foil or store it in an airtight container. It keeps well for up to 3 days.

Freezer: Slice and wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then place in a zip-top freezer bag. Freeze for up to 2 months.

Reheating: For best results, reheat gently in a skillet over low heat with a small pat of butter. Avoid the microwave if possible, as it can toughen the meat.

Sirloin Steak with Garlic Butter Recipe

There are steaks, and then there are steaks worth talking about. This garlic butter sirloin recipe falls firmly into the second category. With just a handful of pantry staples and a hot grill, you can pull off a meal that tastes as if it came straight from a high-end steakhouse. The secret? A generous brush of warm, garlicky butter the moment the steak hits the plate.
Prep Time5 minutes mins
Cook Time10 minutes mins
Total Time15 minutes mins
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 2 Top sirloin steaks About 1 inch thick, 8–10 oz each
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper Freshly cracked
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves Fresh garlic Finely minced
  • ¼ tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  • Remove steaks from the fridge 20–30 minutes before cooking to bring them to room temperature.
    2. Preheat your grill to high heat. Lightly oil the grates with a paper towel dipped in neutral oil.
    3. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and garlic powder. Stir for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, then remove from heat.
    4. Pat steaks dry with a paper towel. Season both sides generously with salt and cracked black pepper.
    5. Grill steaks for 4–5 minutes per side, flipping once. Internal temperature should reach 140°F (60°C) for medium doneness.
    6. Transfer to warmed plates. Brush tops generously with garlic butter and rest for 2–3 minutes before cutting.
    7. Serve immediately with any remaining garlic butter on the side.

Notes

  • Let the steak rest — skipping this step causes the juices to run out when you cut in.
  • Slice against the grain for the most tender bite.
  • Leftover garlic butter keeps in the fridge for up to 1 week. Use it on bread, pasta, or vegetables.
  • For stovetop: use a cast-iron skillet over high heat with the same timing.
