Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter optional
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar optional, for dusting
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples. Slice them into approximately ¼-inch-thick rounds and carefully remove the cores and seeds. Pat the slices dry with paper towels.
  • Cut the puff pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into strips approximately ½ inch wide. Keep the pastry cool and easy to handle.
  • Wrap and season: Wrap a strip of puff pastry around each apple ring, slightly overlapping the edges. Press the ends together. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C), if recommended for your model. Arrange the apple rings in a single layer and cook for 8–12 minutes, checking early, until the pastry is puffed and golden and the apples are tender.
  • Finish and serve: Carefully remove the apple rings and let them cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Best apples: Use firm apples such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith so the slices hold their shape during cooking.
  • Keep pastry cold: Chilled puff pastry is easier to wrap and produces a better flaky texture.
  • Avoid overcrowding: Cook the apple rings in a single layer, in batches if needed, to allow even browning.
  • Watch the cooking time: Air fryers vary, so check the pastry after 8 minutes and continue cooking until golden.
  • Serving suggestion: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, or whipped cream.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 300–325°F until warm and crisp.
  • Freezing: For best quality, freeze unbaked assembled rings for 1–2 months and cook until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
