Ingredients

  • 6 slices sandwich bread
  • 8 oz turkey or cooked chicken thinly sliced
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 2 slices cheese
  • 1 pinch salt optional
  • 1 pinch black pepper optional
  • 4 toothpicks for securing the sandwich

Instructions

  • Cook the Bacon: Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown and crisp. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  • Toast the Bread: Lightly toast the bread slices until golden around the edges while keeping the centers slightly soft.
  • Prepare the Vegetables: Wash and dry the lettuce and tomato. Slice the tomato evenly and pat away excess moisture.
  • Spread the Mayonnaise: Spread mayonnaise evenly over the toasted bread slices, reaching close to the edges.
  • Build the First Layer: Place lettuce, tomato, turkey or chicken, and crispy bacon on one slice of toast. Season lightly with black pepper if desired.
  • Add the Middle Bread: Place another toasted bread slice over the first layer. Spread mayonnaise on the top side before adding the remaining fillings.
  • Finish the Sandwich: Add the remaining turkey or chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Top with the final slice of toasted bread.
  • Secure and Slice: Secure each sandwich with toothpicks. Cut diagonally into halves or quarters and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best club sandwich, assemble it just before serving to keep the toast crisp. Pat the lettuce and tomato dry before adding them to prevent excess moisture from softening the bread. You can substitute turkey with cooked chicken and use cheddar, Swiss, or American cheese as you prefer.
Storage:
Refrigerate leftover assembled sandwiches in an airtight container and consume within the same day for the best texture. Freezing the fully assembled sandwich is not recommended because the lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise can become watery after thawing.
