Ingredients

Crispy Shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled, deveined, and tails removed
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Bang Bang Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons green onions thinly sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp thoroughly dry with paper towels. This helps the coating stick properly and gives the shrimp a crispier exterior.
  • Prepare the coating: In one bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Place the beaten eggs in a second bowl and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  • Coat the shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the beaten egg, then coat it with the seasoned flour mixture. Dip it back into the egg if needed, then press it gently into the panko breadcrumbs until completely coated.
  • Heat the oil: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F.
  • Fry the shrimp: Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil in batches. Avoid overcrowding the pan. Fry for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown, crispy, and cooked through.
  • Drain the shrimp: Transfer the cooked shrimp to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  • Make the Bang Bang sauce: In a clean bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth and creamy.
  • Toss with the sauce: Place the crispy shrimp in a large bowl. Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce over the shrimp and gently toss until evenly coated.
  • Garnish and serve: Top with sliced green onions and serve immediately while the shrimp are hot and crispy.

Notes

  • For the crispiest shrimp, pat the shrimp completely dry before coating.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs rather than regular breadcrumbs for a lighter, crunchier coating.
  • Fry the shrimp in batches to prevent the oil temperature from dropping.
  • Adjust the amount of Sriracha depending on how spicy you want the Bang Bang sauce.
  • For the best texture, toss the shrimp with the sauce immediately before serving.
  • Serve with jasmine rice, steamed vegetables, salad, tacos, lettuce wraps, or noodles.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Reheat in an air fryer or oven rather than the microwave to help restore crispiness.
