Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt into a large microwave-safe mug. Stir until combined.
    2. Pour in the milk, oil, water, and vanilla extract. Stir until the batter is smooth with no dry flour at the bottom.
    3. Cook on high for 1 minute 45 seconds. Check at the 1 minute 30 second mark — the center should look just set and not jiggly.
    4. Let the mug cool for a minute or two before eating. Eat straight from the mug and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Use a mug that holds at least 12 oz so the batter doesn't overflow while cooking.
  • Don't overcook — a slightly soft center is perfectly fine and stays fudgy as it cools.
  • Top with ice cream, peanut butter, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup for an extra treat.
  • Any neutral oil works — canola, vegetable, or melted butter all do the job.
