Total Time 25 minutes mins
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened (2 sticks)
- 1½ cups granulated white sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light, pale, and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.4. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until smooth and fully combined.5. Reduce the mixer to low speed and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms. Stop as soon as no streaks of flour remain.6. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them about 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Gently press each ball down slightly with the flat bottom of a glass.7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just barely golden. The centers may look slightly underdone — that is correct. Let cookies rest on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
For extra sparkle, roll the dough balls in granulated sugar before baking. Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days, refrigerated for up to 2 weeks, or frozen for up to 3 months. Unbaked dough balls can also be frozen and baked straight from frozen — just add 2 to 3 minutes to the bake time.
