Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract optional
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup chopped pecans optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth, creamy, and slightly fluffy.
  • Add the Maple Flavor: Add the maple syrup, egg, vanilla extract, and maple extract if using. Beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  • Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  • Make the Cookie Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix just until the flour is incorporated. Gently fold in the chopped pecans if using. Do not overmix.
  • Scoop the Dough: Use a cookie scoop to portion the dough onto the prepared baking sheets. Leave about 2 inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
  • Bake the Cookies: Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look slightly soft.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack and let them cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Use pure maple syrup for the best maple flavor.
  • Room-temperature butter helps create a smooth and evenly mixed dough.
  • For stronger maple flavor, use maple extract in addition to maple syrup.
  • Don't overbake the cookies. The centers should look slightly soft when they come out of the oven.
  • Chopped pecans are optional but add a delicious nutty crunch.
  • Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container.
  • For an extra-special finish, drizzle cooled cookies with a simple maple glaze.
