Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar optional for topping
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional for drizzling

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  • Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until evenly combined.
  • Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, honey, sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Make the Batter: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fill the Cake Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Use a spatula to spread the batter evenly and smooth the top.
  • Bake the Cake: Bake for 32–35 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Transfer it to a wire rack and let it cool completely before slicing.
  • Decorate and Serve:: Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar and drizzle with a little honey if desired. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • For the best texture: Avoid overmixing the batter once the flour is added. Mix just until the ingredients are incorporated.
  • Honey: A flavorful natural honey gives this cake its signature taste. Mild or floral honey works particularly well.
  • Don't overbake: Remove the cake when a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Overbaking can make the cake dry.
  • Cooling: Allow the cake to cool before slicing so the crumb can fully set.
  • Optional topping: Finish with powdered sugar, a light honey drizzle, chopped walnuts, or pecans.
  • Storage: Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer storage. Individual slices can also be wrapped and frozen for up to 3 months.
