Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  • Combine the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and well combined.
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until evenly combined.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir gently with a spatula just until combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the chocolate chips into the batter, reserving a small handful for the top.
  • Fill the Loaf Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips evenly over the surface.
  • Bake for 60–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking.
  • Cool and Slice: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack. Allow it to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For an even richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
  • Do not overmix the batter because this can make the bread dense.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing for cleaner pieces.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Individual slices can be wrapped and frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Warm a slice in the microwave for 10–20 seconds before serving.
