Puppy Chow Recipe

Puppy chow, also known as Muddy Buddies, is a classic no-bake snack that's impossible to resist. It's made with crispy rice or corn cereal (such as Chex), coated in a rich mixture of melted chocolate, peanut butter, and butter, then generously tossed in powdered sugar for the perfect sweet finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 ½ to 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter together in a large microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Add the Rice Chex cereal to the bowl and gently fold until every piece is evenly coated in the chocolate mixture.
  • Pour the coated cereal into a large zip-lock bag or lidded container. Add the powdered sugar, seal, and shake well until all the cereal is fully coated.
  • Spread the finished puppy chow onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer and let it cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute sunflower seed butter or cookie butter in place of peanut butter.
  • Add M&Ms, sprinkles, or mini marshmallows after cooling for a fun festive twist.
  • Double the batch easily for parties and holiday gatherings — it disappears fast,
