Puppy Chow Recipe
Puppy chow, also known as Muddy Buddies, is a classic no-bake snack that's impossible to resist. It's made with crispy rice or corn cereal (such as Chex), coated in a rich mixture of melted chocolate, peanut butter, and butter, then generously tossed in powdered sugar for the perfect sweet finish.

Total Time 15 minutes mins
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- ¼ cup salted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 ½ to 2 cups powdered sugar
Melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter together in a large microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Add the Rice Chex cereal to the bowl and gently fold until every piece is evenly coated in the chocolate mixture.
Pour the coated cereal into a large zip-lock bag or lidded container. Add the powdered sugar, seal, and shake well until all the cereal is fully coated.
Spread the finished puppy chow onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer and let it cool completely before serving.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- For a nut-free version, substitute sunflower seed butter or cookie butter in place of peanut butter.
- Add M&Ms, sprinkles, or mini marshmallows after cooling for a fun festive twist.
- Double the batch easily for parties and holiday gatherings — it disappears fast,
